Enercon Guarantees Packaging Safety Solution
Induction seals add security and value to your products
The safety benefits of induction sealing were first realized by the pharmaceutical industry in the 1980s. The FDA was quick to recognize induction sealing as an effective means of tamper-evidence. Today, safety is a primary concern for all packagers and induction seals are becoming a focal part of many companies' packaging strategy.
Effective tamper-evidence
How does an induction sealer provide tamper-evidence? Induction sealing is a non-contact heating process that accomplishes the hermetic sealing of a container with a foil seal. When the appropriate type of seal is used, the seal cannot be removed without leaving evidence on the lip of the container.
Fitting an induction sealer into your line is easy. They take up very little space, operate in-line and are easy to operate. Beyond package security, induction seals provide improved product shelf life, eliminate leaks and can even improve line efficiencies.
Below are three examples of companies who benefit from Enercon induction sealers.
Many additional benefits
The Minterbrook Oyster Company of Gig Harbor, Washington relies on a customized cap sealing solution developed by Enercon. They replaced a problematic heat-shrunk seal system with an induction sealer.
According to Minterbrook's General Manager Erika Wikstin, "We were primarily looking for a tamper evident seal, but the additional benefit of leak prevention was a very welcome plus. We got that and more -- the seal also provided extended shelf life by protecting freshness both through the reduced heat added to the product during sealing and because the seal forms an excellent oxygen barrier during shipment, storage and shelf-time." The seal has also been a hit with Minterbrook's customers.
Improved efficiencies
When SmithKline Beecham Consumer Healthcare redesigned their Tums? package, they relied on Enercon to help them make the switch from a conduction seal to an induction seal. According to SB Packaging Engineer Jim Pitassi, "I liked Enercon's strong, in-house research and development team, unlike R&D consultants that I found with some of the competition." Plant Supervisor of Mechanical services Mickey Miramonti adds, "There is a lot less downtime, which saves on manpower.
And we produce less scrap."
Speed to satisfy
Induction sealers are designed to keep pace with aggressive packaging lines. In Puerto Rico, Merck Pharmaceutical installed an Enercon cap sealer for their new 300 cpm packaging line. Merck's system is customized with ancillary equipment that adds value and productivity to their processes. An Enercon cap inspection system detects stalled bottles, high caps and missing foils.
