In August of 1996, Greg and Jeanette Bukuras started The Original Rangoon Company. In the true spirit of entrepreneurship, the couple was convinced there was a market for high quality Crab Rangoons on a food chain retail level. Since it is such a popular item in Chinese restaurants, the couple did some market research and determined that people would, in fact, be interested in buying Crab Rangoon as a frozen food item. So off they went on this new venture. Greg brought his 15 years of experience and contacts in the seafood business and Jeanette added her sales skills to the product.

It was determined to use a carton to package the product as this offered excellent graphics and added a professional look. It was important to seal these cartons to insure consumer confidence and meet tamper resistant demands of the retail outlets. As the upstart budget was limited, the company started by gluing the carton manually with a glue gun. As the volume continued to grow, it became obvious, due to the expense, danger, and mess of gluing by hand, that some type of automation was becoming necessary.

Greg found a used ECONOSEAL Twinseal semi-automatic carton sealer and approached ECONOCORP to see if they would help him put it in service. ?I found ECONOCORP to be very friendly, informative, and willing to help?, stated Greg. ?I took the machine to the factory and they got it prepared to reliably glue seal my cartons quickly and economically.? It quickly became obvious that the ECONOSEAL Twinseal increased packaging productivity, reduced labor, and created a high quality level of sealed cartons. The Twinseal automatically applies hot melt adhesive to the carton flaps and closes the flaps, resulting in finished and attractively sealed cartons at the rate of up to 30 cartons per minute. In fact, Greg confirmed that this type of speed is achieved on a regular basis.

The Original Rangoon Company has successfully grown over the years and now offers the marketplace a full array of frozen seafood and meat products. Greg and Jeanette?s products are now packaged in two locations, Boston and St Louis. They now own four ECONOSEAL machines including three semi-automatics Twinseal carton sealers and one E-SYSTEM 2000 automatic, horizontal cartoner.
