SONOCO?S SONOWRAP? PACK: The ?Next Generation? in Rigid Paperboard Packaging
Sonoco has extended its
portfolio of rigid paper packaging solutions with SonoWrap? technology, a new
range of single wrap rigid paperboard packaging. Companies that want the latest
in rigid packaging are choosing the SonoWrap pack because it combines excellent
graphics, performance and consumer-pleasing features in a single, cost-effective
solution.

The SonoWrap pack
gets it name from its uncomplicated construction. The single laminated
structure combines a bodywall, liner and label into a single ply that
is then die-cut to the proper shape. It is composed of paperboard and
the customer's choice of liner material, from low, medium to high (hermetic).
SonoWrap packs are available in round and tapered formats, in single or
multi-serving sizes.
"With SonoWrap, Sonoco
is the first to market with a high barrier, cost competitive shaped paperboard
package," says Howard Coker, director, Marketing, Rigid Paper and Plastic,
Sonoco. "SonoWrap technology gives companies an exciting, customizable
shaped package that is quick and cost effective to commercialize."
Patrick Keese, vice
president-Consumer Products, Sonoco Europe calls SonoWrap technology a
key addition to the European product portfolio. "It allows Sonoco Europe
to supply our customers with a very cost effective package that offers
enhanced graphics, a range of barrier properties, and new distribution
efficiencies," he says.

SonoWrap technology offers
options on graphics that are not available with traditional composite cans.
Litho offset printing delivers exceptional brightness and pinpoint reproduction.
Customers can choose from special high gloss finishes, embossing, UV coatings
and inks, and hot foil stamping. Windows can be added for product visibility.
These options are particularly popular for seasonal and promotional packages.
Last fall, Paramount Farms
replaced its usual SunkistŪ pistachio pillow bag with Sonoco's large format
SonoWrap pack, a 110 x 97 x 172 mm tall taper cup. The objective was to reposition
pistachios as an elegant gift item and high-end snack for the holiday season.

|
"We really pulled
out all the stops on shelf appeal, "says Paul Hachigian, vice president,
Marketing, Paramount Farms. "We wanted to make sure no one missed Sunkist
pistachios during the holidays."
Paramount Farms and
other customers are also attracted to SonoWrap's consumer friendly features.
The shaped pack fits easily in hand, facilitating pouring. It has a wide
mouth so consumers can eat straight from the pack. Its tabbed peelable
foil membrane top makes it easy to open. A flexible LLDPE overcap allows
for secure reseal. All components of the package-the laminated cup, membrane
closure and overcaps-are supplied by Sonoco.

There's a cost benefit,
too. The non-round packs nest together neatly, resulting in significant savings
on inbound freight and storage.
SonoWrap packs are available
in North American and Europe. For information call 800/5SONOCO or visit the
