Marathon™ XL Roll-Fed Labeler with SMARTdrive™
B&H Labeling Systems introduces the new Marathon™ XL, the fastest labeler in the successful Marathon family of roll-fed labelers, which features SMARTdrive™, the industry’s first all-electronic drive train. With a servomotor-driven feedscrew and container stabilization features, the Marathon XL handles containers from 8 oz. to 3 liters at speeds up to 650 containers per minute.
Compared to the complex, high-speed rotary machines, the advanced in-line design of the Marathon XL greatly simplifies operations, maintenance and changeovers using fewer moving parts and digital automation. As a result, Marathon XL improves productivity and reduces the total cost of ownership.
Marathon XL features SMARTdrive™, an advanced digital, multi-axis servomotor control. Five independent servomotors communicate on a high-speed digital bus to precisely synchronize component operations such as label feeding, cutting, gluing and container transport. Eliminating the gears, belts and chains found on traditional labelers, SMARTdrive improves labeling accuracy over the life of the machine; B&H guarantees labeling defect rates of less than 0.05 percent with all Marathon roll-fed labelers. Fewer moving parts improve reliability, ease maintenance and increase uptime.
With its all-electronic, servomotor-based design, Marathon XL achieves the fastest changeover in the industry by eliminating time-consuming machine adjustments. Recipe downloads for each new container allow Marathon XL to automatically adjust the needed machine settings. Lightweight, color-coded RCO (Rapid Changeover) change parts further ease changeover. As a result, the Marathon XL sets a new industry record for high speed changeovers: less than 15 minutes from one full production speed to another, including the replacement of change parts.
Built-in intelligence and 24/7 self-monitoring diagnostics reduce maintenance, ease troubleshooting and simplify repairs to maximize Marathon’s reliability and uptime. Designed for ease of use, the Marathon XL features a ten-inch color touchscreen monitor with intuitive drop-down menus, graphics, navigation bars and drop-down keyboard for data entry.
Marathon XL features B&H’s powerful ProWatch™, the monitoring tool that tracks labeler productivity and scrap by container type, operator, shift, day and week. Screen and hard-copy summary reports provide data for process improvements. Monitoring and reporting critical data in real time enables packagers to maximize the productivity and the efficiency of the labeling operation.

Marathon Series with SMARTdrive™
B&H Labeling Systems introduces the Marathon series of roll-fed labelers with SMARTdriveTM, an advanced digital, multi-axis servomotor control. B&H’s multi-axis timing control offers the simplest mechanical design with fewer parts for much improved reliability and uptime. The new Marathon labelers also enhance production efficiencies by eliminating the need for any mechanical adjustments after changeover and by reducing operator decision-making through the use of the advanced interface and a high degree of automation. Designed by B&H to minimize the total cost of ownership over the life of the labeler, the Marathon series optimizes labeling performance.
The Marathon SE features multi-axis timing control, which uses independent servomotors that communicate on a high-speed digital bus to precisely synchronize component operations such as label feeding, cutting, gluing and container transport. This advanced system eliminates complex mechanical linkages such as gears, belts and chains found in rotary machines and results in more consistent and accurate label application over the life of the machine. B&H guarantees labeling defect rates of less than 0.05% with Marathon roll-fed labelers. Marathon SE has a small footprint, requiring only 120 inches from conveyor end-to-end, reducing expensive factory floorspace required by most rotary labelers.
Modular and configurable in design, each Marathon labeler can be customized to offer tailored capabilities and covers a wide range of prices to meet the specific needs of each packager. This modular design reduces spare parts and simplifies maintenance and repairs. Handling containers with volumes from 8 oz. to 3 liters, the Marathon SE operates at speeds up to 350 containers per minute.
Compared to complex rotary labelers, the servo-driven Marathon SE significantly simplifies and speeds set-up and changeover by eliminating the need for mechanical adjustments. The Marathon SE can be changed over quickly from full production speed on one type container to full production speed on the next. Key machine and product parameters for each container type are stored in a recipe database and downloaded after replacing change parts. This, together with simpler change parts, enables an operator to change over the Marathon SE in less than 15 minutes.
Marathon’s digital motion control system achieves greater operational flexibility compared to mechanical drive trains. Also, new automation features such as built-in intelligence via smart sensors provide 24/7 self-checking diagnostics and predictive maintenance that improves machine productivity. In addition, The Marathon SE features B&H’s new “Productivity Monitoring,” an advanced software system that tracks and analyzes several key parameters in real time to improve labeler efficiency.
B&H offers Siemens PLC with the Marathon SE to simplify integration into plant-wide automation systems and provide rugged operation in the factory. Designed for ease of use, the Marathon SE offers an ergonomically designed operator control station with a color touch-screen flat panel display with intuitive functionality such as drop-down menus and graphics. This control station swivels for easy viewing and operation from different areas of the machine.

BH1600
The BH1600 is an economical roll-fed labeler designed for packaging operations with moderate production requirements. It labels containers ranging from 240 ml to 1.5 liters volume, and 1.5" - 5" (3.8 cm- 13 cm) diameter, at speeds up to 300 cpm. Rapid Change Over (RCO®) capability allows changeovers to be performed in 15 to 20 minutes. Quick release handles, minimal change parts, and fewer required adjustments result in greater operational simplicity. Container and label sizes can be pre-programmed into the computerized operating system, allowing the operator to set the vacuum drum, cutting drum, and glue applicator system with the touch of a button. The Computerized Registration System (CRS®) automatically maintains label registration and features a programmable touch-screen control panel.

BH700
The patented BH700 Endura® roll-fed shrink labeling process economically combines roll-fed labeling technology with a shrink system that minimizes the costs associated with labeling contour containers. The BH700 Endura® process applies shrinkable roll-fed labels to containers using a metered glue pattern, and using the container itself as a mandrel. Individually controlled heat applicators gently warm the label area as the container is being conveyed through the system. The label shrinks and perfectly embraces the contour of the package. Shrink labels applied with roll- fed technology are substantially less expensive than shrink sleeve labeling in terms of initial equipment investment, change parts, and labeling costs. Roll-fed labelers also operate at much faster line speeds than shrink sleeve labelers and increase line productivity by reducing changeover time, machine maintenance, and operator training requirements. Just-in-time decorative flexibility can also help processors differentiate their products with seasonal and promotional package decoration.

BH8000S
The BH8000S features an in-line conveyor and is designed for heavy-duty, low maintenance, high- speed labeling. Incorporated into the BH8000S are many of the industry’s most recent technological advances. The BH8000S features a computerized operating system that can be pre-programmed for different con-tainer and label sizes, simplifying changeovers and eliminating possible operator errors. The operator simply pushes a button to set the vacuum drum, cutting drum, and glue application systems instead of making cumbersome, time-consuming mechanical adjustments. Optional color-coded Rapid Change Over (RCO®) change parts further reduce changeover time, and changeovers can be performed by one person in about 15 to 20 minutes. An infeed feedscrew provides excellent high-speed container control The patented Computerized Registration System (CRS®) on the BH8000S virtually eliminates out-of-register labels common to mechanical systems, and accurate label registration is maintained even at speeds over 700 containers per minute.

BH8000U
The BH8000U brings the latest roll-fed labeling technology to factories where floor space requirements won't ordinarily allow an in-line labeler. The 180° U-shaped turn of the synchronized conveyor results in a 20% smaller footprint as well as 10% faster line speeds. Designed for heavy- duty, low maintenance, high-speed labeling, the BH8000U feeds containers from the right side of the machine and discharges them out the right side at operating speeds of up to 850 containers per minute, depending on container size. Container sizes ranging from 220ml to 3L can be easily accommodated on the BH8000U. The operator simply pushes a button to set the vacuum drum, cutting drum, and glue application systems for positive container and label control. Optional color-coded Rapid Change Over (RCO®) change parts further reduce changeover time, and changeovers can be performed by one person in about 15 to 20 minutes. The patented Computerized Registration System (CRS®) virtually eliminates out-of-register labels common to mechanical systems.
